Valerie Bellemare
MBA, CHRL
Valerie is an independent HR consultant who is primarily focused in designing and implementing HR strategy, redefining total rewards and supporting compensation & HR programs while creating fair and equitable workplaces. In addition to her consulting engagements, Valerie also works for a local tech company as Vice-President of Human Resources in a part-time capacity. Valerie has held similar roles in the past, and been responsible for leading the HR functions for a Crown Corporation, as well as a private enterprises operating in the construction, retail and manufacturing sectors.
Valerie has created and led large HR teams providing full-cycle HR services to organizations. In her previous roles as the Head of HR, in both the public and private sectors, Valerie provided strategic leadership over all facets of Human Resources, including, but not limited to: total rewards, recognition and engagement, talent acquisition, leadership and professional development, payroll, labour relations, and health & safety. She designs and leads initiatives to support a thriving workplace culture and build resilient, high performing teams. She is passionate about business and enjoys the impact that investing in people can have on an organization.
Her entrepreneurial drive is fortified by enterprise experience steering significant change efforts across several organizations such as Farm Boy, lululemon, Tamarack Homes, Taggart Construction and Doran Contractors. She has worked closely with senior leaders to expand their organizational capacity, increase productivity and improve business results. Valerie's track record includes leading change through the acquisition of a new business, transitioning after the sale of a business, successful collective bargaining negotiations, establishing pay transparency and job classification, and the development of DEI and engagement strategy (to name a few). She has also mentored members through the HRPA and served on various committees that are related to leadership development, careers in construction, women in business, and compensation throughout her career.
Valerie holds a BA in Law and completed a certificate program in Human Resources with the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University. She holds a master's degree (MBA) in Business Administration, from Queen's University, is a member of the HRPA, and holds the CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) designation in Ontario.
